Befriender Programme

The Befriender Programme of SIS, Medan has been in place since 2006. It is dedicated mainly to the students’ welfare and development. It seeks to help the students be at ease with a teacher-buddy while he goes on with his daily academic and co-curricular activities.

In this programme, teachers apply their knowledge in child psychology as they need to give advice to students and motivate them to do better in school. As the year goes by, students and teachers in SIS, Medan find this programme very challenging yet meaningful.

Objectives of the Programme:

The main purposes of this programme are :

  • To help students to perform better in school
  • To make students feel that they can talk to somebody in school about their problems and can get solutions/support to their academic problems
  • To help students and teachers get to know each other more beyond the classroom set-up
  • To maintain the sense of belongingness both to students and teachers for the school

Mechanics of The Programme:

  • A General meeting is held to assign students to teacher-befrienders. This is usually done at the beginning of each school year during the Orientation week.
  • Each teacher is assigned to at least  3 students from Primary 5 to Junior College.
  • After the general meeting, teacher and befriender students will have their first meeting as “getting to know” session.
  • Teacher and student befrienders will schedule a meeting according to the need of students.
  • Teacher will give guidance and advice to student befrienders according to the students’ need.
